Choir Audition Information Spring 2014

Choir Auditions will be held April 29 - May 3.

Current Eighth Grade Choir, Concert Choir, la Voce, and Mystic Blues students may audition during class. Other incoming FRESHMEN through SENIORS should make an appointment with Mrs. Reid.

For questions or concerns, contact Mrs. Reid by email at mreid@usd355.org or stop by the choral office.

**Women auditioning will be considered for either Mystic Blues and/or Women’s Choir according to ability level and experience.

IMPORTANT: THE AUDITION RECORDING, RHYTHM, MELODY, AND PREPARED MUSIC IS AVAILABLE ON MRS. REID'S WEBSITE.

Audition Information:

  • All auditions will be audio recorded.

  • Audition exercises will include clapping and counting a short rhythm, sight-reading on solfege, singing a prepared section of “Sing a Mighty Song” by Daniel E. Gawthrop, and demonstrating range.

  • All singers will audition to the same pre-recorded CD of instructions with appropriate pitches and accompaniments played.

  • Auditions are closed and private. No other students or teachers will be allowed in the room during the audition, including Mrs. Reid.

Audition Scoring:

  • A panel of experienced musicians will hear and score each recorded audition according to natural vocal talent, trained (learned) vocal technique, musicianship (hearing and reading music correctly), and overall singing effectiveness.

  • All voices will be judged anonymously; no panel member will know who the singer is while scoring him or her.
